I was off last week on a family vacation to Portland and Seattle. We had a GREAT time. I joked with my son (the one in the green shirt) that this was the first family vacation when I didn't want to kill him by the time we were through! I have, however, decided to go on future trips only with people my age or older - they walked and hiked my legs off! Here's a picture of my crew - you'll notice that four out of five are much, much younger than me.
They're standing in front of a waterfall that we hiked up. Below is a bigger picture of it... Needless to say, I didn't make it to the top. I think I got about a third of the way up and somebody saw a snake and I had to pee, so that was the end of my hiking that mountain!
We also went white water rafting on the Clakamas River. I've been white water rafting before and I really like it, but since I'm not a great swimmer or a outdoorsy type person (huge understatement), I'm always a little hesitant at first. Before you even get onto the river, they talk to you about safe rafting - I should have known I was in trouble....
Guide: Now, in case you should fall into the river...
Me: (with my hand up, waving madly) Ummm... how often does that happen?
Guide: (with a big smile) More often than you might think.
Yup, I should have know I was in trouble. I think this picture was AFTER he dumped us all in the river.
I THOUGHT my "advanced" age would spare me .... and the fact that our VERY young guide (all of 24) told me I reminded me of his mother (also named Deb). I was wrong. Did I tell you the water coming off the mountains is all of 57 degrees??!
In the photo below we're all in the front of the raft, trying to "surf" up the back of the raft. I can't decide if they're trying to drown Dad or save him!
It was beautiful country, though... no humidity and a lot less heat... so unlike Nebraska in the summer!
Anyway.. I'm back and getting into the swing of "real life" and Country Sampler, so I'll be posting shop news soon.

I'm glad that you're back safe and sound, but I have to tell you I haven't had a laugh like that for quite some time, especially seeing the picture of you all soaked and your husband looking like he's being drowned! Hope you had a good time anyway!

Deb,
Thanks for your note. We had a GREAT time, and yes, it really looks like the kids are trying to drown him, doesnt it? And the water was so cold! Wed all do it again ... maybe not the falling in the river though!
