I'm a member of a small group called the Yo-Yos. We got our name from the book, The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. We loved the book, but decided the name "Yo-Yos" would be a little more accurate for this group (for a variety of reasons!). Anyway, we meet twice a year to go on a quilting retreat at Mahoney State Park. Some of us go out for almost a week, some for four days, some just for the week end. If you've never gone on a quilting retreat with friends, your really missing some great times; TONS of laughing and there's a lot of stitching that gets done! (We eat pretty well too!)
Sometimes we sew models for the store, sometimes we sew something that's been sitting in our sewing rooms for a while (you know how that goes). We always bring multiple projects - usually more than we could ever finish - but that's the fun of it.
I took a few pictures of our group and their projects so I could put them on the blog. This isn't easy, though. For one thing, although we do try and shower each day, it's not like we're putting on make up and doing our hair just to sew all day and night. Thus, having your picture taken is not a good thing. You're gonna see a lot of pictures with no faces. I did get a couple of "face pictures" though. The one below is Sally reading the notes from a previous retreat. Sally is our official secretary ... her notes help to remind us of all the dumb things that happened and what we worked on on previous retreats.
Below are some of our projects. These first pics are some of Ann's quilts. She got so much done that she had to go back home and get some more. Big sigh from me. The one below is going to be a model at the Papillion store. Isn't a beauty?? (Please ignore the blue painters tape. That's how we display our accomplishments without taking off all the paint in the cabin.)
Below... another finished project from Ann. It's going to be another model from a pattern by Primitive Gatherings, called, Simple Gatherings. I took a close up of the wool center... neat, huh?
Below are just a couple of Sandy's projects....
These below are going to be pillows in the near future for Sandy's house.
The pictures below are Sally's quilts. (She put on make up and did her hair for "picture day", thus I got to include her face!)
The little quilt below is for a friend of her mom's. She lives in a retirement home across the hall from Sally's mom. She's always coming over asking to buy one of the many changing quilts Sally hangs on her mom's door. Sally made this one for the neighbor, so she could have a quilt of her own. Isn't she a peach??!
Lori working on her "Civil War Tribute" block. We had several blocks from this BOM finished at this retreat!
Lori's quilt on her bed.
Lori made two "Twist Bags" for models in the shop (she said we needed to freshen up the selection), plus this darling table runner... just a couple of the many things she worked on and finished.
Another finished quilt from Lori.
And a Minky blankee with satin binding.
I made two "Sassy Aprons", models for West Center - one for momma and one for daughter! I also got a baby quilt cut out and stitched some borders on a "Jelly Roll Quilt".
Good times, with good friends!! We've got a shop retreat in just a few weeks, so the sewing will continue. I can't wait!!
