People often tell me that owning a quilt shop would be their dream job. Most of the time I just nod and smile. Don't get me wrong, I love my job... but it is a job. And a quilt store is a business. It has to make money or we all go home and start browsing through the want ads for something that does make money. Both the job and the business come with a lot of decisions.
Although you'd like to buy just about every fabric made... it's just not feasible, let alone affordable!! So... a gal has to pick and choose. I usually plan for about four Christmas lines each year. I try to have some snowmen, some Santa, some traditional, some a little funky, some a little fun. (Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!)
Anyway, I thought I'd let you pick one of the Christmas lines for 2010. Honestly, I just can't decide. See what you think....
The line is from Moda and Kate Spade, called, 12 Days of Christmas . The picture above was the panel that goes with the line. Really, I wasn't too thrilled with the panel - not sure what to do with that baby, but the coordinates could be keepers, so see what you think.
Green colorway.....
Blue colorways.
The reds.....
These are the whites... and just a heads up... they are pretty white.
A couple of the prints close up.... That first one looks kinda like Whoville from one of Dr. Suess's books, doesn't it?
Well, what do you think??? Is it a keeper?? Should I buy the whole line? Would you delete anything? How 'bout that panel, any ideas? I promise I'll do what you say... 'course you've got to buy some of it come this fall.... nah, not really.... I wouldn't hold ya to that... but it should be a line you'd buy if you were me and if you were a regular 'ole quilter (which I'm supposing you are).
So, drop me a line and let me know what you think. Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't know about the panel but I absolutely would buy those coordinates... especially the reds and greens. They look a little bit delicious!

Deb, I love the patterns, for me I would buy the blue's....but to make something for everyone else the greens are great.

I love the fabrics, I do not like panels so I would not buy them but the rest I would buy, I say keep them all.

I'm not partial to the blue or the panel, but love the green, red and white lines.

I'm not fond of the panel either. But I love the coordinates, all of the colorways. There were a couple of lines out this year, and these would fall in the same category, mid-century/1950's... I lived through those years as a kid and they really don't push my "on" button. I guess I'm tired of the "12 days" from everyone as well. I do like blue for the holidays, because some years are "blue", but it is a beautiful color to use. More "snowman-like". Just my 2 cents.

Agree with the group, don't care for the panel but love the coordinates.

I agree love the coordinates but the panel not so much. All the colors are wonderful and I will have to control myself when I come in, in the fall or I might have the whole line. LOL
Love the whites too.

For me, I'm getting tired of the lime greens and the aqua blues for a Christmas line. I'd like to see some rich reds and greens again. Something really Christmas-y.
I like to cut up panels and make something with them, but I'm stumped on this one, I'll have to think about that.

Hi Deb, I really like the whites but really dislike the panel. I'm in agreement with Janet's remark, I miss the traditional red and greens for christmas. The one fabric with the skaters does look like Whoville. It would make cute pillowcases for kids. Overall the prints are large, pretty but I haven't a clue what to do with them. I'm sure if you order the line and make and kit something in it, I will probably be buying it. You guys always come up with the cutest things. And I do look everyday to see if you posted.

The more I look at this fabric the more I'm liking it. I was looking at Moda's website at their free patterns and found Panache posted 7-27-09. I was thinking that the white square in square could maybe be the panel and the skaters and poinsettia's or the ornaments. Some of the other fabrics would make pretty presents since some of the fabrics do remind me of wrapping paper. The quilt pattern is 70" x 83" and would use a lot of fabric[LOL] . I don't know just a thought by someone bored on the computer.

Greetings! I just spotted your blog and was interested to read the feedback from your readers. It's always so helpful to me as a designer to know what it is that people do or do not like about what i design. If you can give more specific feedback about what you didn't care for about the panel, please do email me at kate(at)katespain.com. I'd love to hear from you! Though i get this all the time and don't mean to disappoint, I'm not actually the shi-shi handbag designer Kate Spade as in the typo on your post. lol! And you are so right...those elves were indeed inspired by Dr. Seuss! Take good care, Kate Spain
